Diwali celebrates Rama’s eventual defeat of the evil spirit Ravana, and his triumphant return to his home. The significance of Diwali is especially strong this year as celebrations coincide with Victoria coming out of lockdown and looking forward to a brighter future to travel and reconnect with family and friends.
The Hindu community considers it an auspicious time to start new ventures, as the festival also symbolises the Hindu New Year. This celebrations includes buying new clothes, new beginnings and important life decisions – like investing in a property.
